What did this Tallahassee, FL Realtor learned from OREO and a Tweet during the blackout at the Superbowl 2013? I watched them all, and none resonated with me as entertaining, creative or intriguing. I really can’t think of one ad that I thought I would pay $1M+ for if I were a business owner. The one’s I saw were simply bland, to say the least. Unfortunately, I didn’t learn about “the Tweet” until days after the Superbowl.
Wow! So, with that said, I was talking with my daughter, (a budding marketing genius working for an International marketing firm based in Tallahassee), last night, over dinner about marketing and real estate, about advertising and how I, as a Realtor, “sells” conceptualizations of lifestyles to potential home owners. We got sidetracked on the Superbowl ads when talking about creativity and what might be a good ad to replace the QR code on my back windshield. She asked if I had I seen the OREO tweet. and shared it with me. I suddenly felt a connection to my daughter,…we ARE from the same cloth after-all!
So, remember when the lights went out in the Superdome during the Superbowl 2013 game? The OREO marketing team was standing by and tweeted this: ” Power out? No problem.” And then they posted the link to the picture in this post. The message in the photo? “You can still dunk in the dark.” We looked at the tweet, and she told me how it went viral in a matter of seconds. This is marketing genius. Now, my degree is not in marketing. I’m just a Realtor in lil’ Tallahassee, FL who loves social media, (aka @FloridaSunSales), and who gets the power of effective marketing, and this is marketing at it’s best. To me, this tweet was genius on every level. 1. The advertising and marketing team was in place – in action, involved and engaged with the Superbowl 2013 game itself, waiting for the opportunity to engage. 2. They were mindful of their product the OREO, the message, and 3. They recognized the opportunity to swiftly deliver a time-sensitive message to thousands of viewers who were also engaged and completely understood the advertisement, and who enjoyed it. According to AdAge |Media News the Oreo tweet was retweeted over 10,000 times in 1 hour! Great job 360i!
