Stay Connected at Florida State University
I joined Family Connection, formerly the Parent’s Association, at Florida State University in 2003 when my daughter arrived as a freshman. Wilma Rosenbloom, founder of the Parent’s Association and who established the Ben Rosenbloom Scholarship invited me to participate on the Board of Directors. It was an honor and pleasure to serve for 7 years.
From my first daughter’s orientation, and each one after that, I saw a need at that orientation for a local face, a local smile and a local contact to be made between other local parents and the many, many parents who were sending their children to one of the countries largest universities.
Just completing Legislative day on the Capitol hill with Florida Realtors and FSU, on the same day, it was apparent now more than ever that parental support is needed in order for FSU to continue to provide quality education and programs it is known for and strives to uphold.
Being a part of Family Connection from the beginning until retiring from my service as Chairman in 2010, brought me even closer to the mission of the organization. Just as my job as a Realtor holds families together, helping to create safe, health homes, the Family Connection mission, continues to hold true. Parents need to stay connected to their children and Florida State welcomes their involvement, and participation in all that the university has to offer them as they receive a world class education. The success of producing such excellent graduates is a direct result of families who can help in that process.
The Family Connection mission includes:
* Information sharing between the University and families of current students.
* Support for University programs and services that promote student success.
* Encouragement of appropriate involvement of families in the college experience.
* Feedback and dialog on issues important to the successful growth of
Florida State University as an institution.
