What Does “Home” Mean To You?
Florida Realtors President Sherri Meadows has a goal in 2014 to raise awareness of homelessness and deliver support to those in need. Reaching out to homeless coalitions and service providers whose purpose is to aid the homeless, to re-home the homeless and to offer support for these volunteers and non-profits in their efforts are all goals this year during President Sherri’s term.
“Quality of life” is crucial to vibrant, thriving communities. Rep. Kathleen Peters is helping to make a difference! Today Trey(Price) and I discussed SB1040/HB979 with her as possible funding for community Homeless Coalitions in Florida. We Believe we can make a difference!

As Realtors, we are all to aware of financial toll that the economy, that joblessness, illness and misfortune have on families. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is more heart wrenching than to hear the stories we hear as people lose their homes, their security, their sense of place. We see the remnants as people leave their homes, have seen personal belongings left in homes. It’s as if families have simply vanished. It’s time for us all to be more aware of these situations, to make time to understand where we fit in, how we can help to end homelessness in our communities, our cities, our Country.
So this year, you will hear me share more and more about homelessness, and about how Tallahassee Realtors are taking action, about how our team is getting creative with the ultimate goal to put families in beds, their own beds, with food on their tables and with running water and heat, back yards to play in, and a place they can call home.
More than 550 children in Tallahassee, FL are homeless, which is nearly 20 percent of the city’s total homeless population. The number of homeless families and children continues to grow, with an increasing number of them experiencing homelessness for the first time. That’s a huge number. What are we doing about it?
How would that feel, to be homeless. Truthfully, having faced losing a home, I can appreciate the terror involved. Having heard and counseled with close friends facing the loss of their homes,… I understand. So what do we do, where do we go from here, how do we help? I will be posting more on this subject this year. We start with understanding, by opening eyes, and ears to the cries of those around us. We can make a difference.
