People still buy homes in Tallahassee, Florida without Realtors. Yes they do. Unfortunately, those buyers often end up with issues that they have no clue as to how to solve, much less have a clue as to who can solve their dilemmas.
A few years ago, I answered the call from a buyer desperate and sitting in a moving van wondering where his family was supposed to go because his transaction fell apart at the closing table. The attorneys for the seller, where he had unknowingly agreed to close, kept a binder check, and hurried him out the door because it was almost 5:00pm. Education is a requirement set for the in the REALTOR Code of Ethics. Higher ethical standards for members of the National Association of Realtors involve dealing with the public, with fellow Realtors, and for setting the bar higher for Realtors as individuals. There are many educational events you may hear Realtors today discussing. Last fall I attended 2010 National Association of Realtors Conference in New Orleans. In the winter I attended the NAR Mid-Winter Business Meeting, This spring the XPlode Technology conference and this summer will be at the Gainesville and Orlando REBarCamp events and the Florida Realtors Annual Conference in August.
These events aren’t just for fun, although we try to make the most of it. These are necessary educational meetings that showcase hot marketing topics, marketing products and trending technology business building tools that are necessary to conduct the daily business of real estate sales.
The day before the NAR Conference, I attended the Real Estate BarCamp in New Orleans. Open to 200 or so agents who registered weeks before the conference, the “un-conference” was standing room only. Agents and technology leaders gathered to create a schedule of various classes that spawned creative discussions on topics such as Realtor Property Resource program development, mobile phone applications, Google Tools, Geo-tagging and blogging strategies. People may wonder what a Realtor would need with this type of knowledge. Believe it or not, Realtors don’t just ride people around in their cars.
Real estate is a consumer demand profession. Real estate brokerages are re-defining their business models with the demand that consumers place on them. Finding the happy medium between consumer demand and Realtor schedules is a constant challenge. Brokers struggle to support the needs of their agents and agents are constantly learning the most effective ways to serve their customers. (more…)

Being a Realtor in the Tallahassee, FL area, a photography amateur, a live=long resident and history buff, I’ve always had a fascination for gates. Especially old gates. Tallahassee dates back to the Spanish settler days, could that be where the trend to have stone walls, and gated entrances originated? I’m not sure and should probably do a little digging to find out. None-the-less, I am still intrigued by gates, fences, at least the unique ones.
I’ve decided to post a few of these pictures I’ve been collecting along the way in “The Gates of Tallahassee Series.”
One of the first ones I wanted to post was in Los Robles. An historic community in the heart of Tallahassee. The very name sounds old, and it means “The Oaks.” One drive through there, and you will see those stately oaks and the historic homes carefully placed under their century year old branches. This gate impressed me, not for it’s size, it looked to be a mere 5′ tall at best, but because of the archways, the peep hole and iron hinges on the wooden slat door. It certainly fits the Spanish influenced neighborhood of Los Robles.
Home sales spur the economy in many ways. Financial advantages of home-ownership, pride in building a home for a family to grow up in, a home where friends and colleagues gather to celebrate special occasions all help Americans become healthy in more ways than one. Home sales contribute to the domino effect of multi-level economics involving many trade industries.
American citizens are resourceful, they are resilient and they are survivors. surviving a housing market sales decline, the worst in 40 years, and despite the raiding of sacred trust funds specifically set aside to spur housing growth, Americans will find a way to purchase homes for their families. Buying a home, settling in to begin a family, raising children, enjoying neighbors, working together in communities to create lifestyles that foster growth, development and support will always be the American dream.
Disgusted with the news today, CBS, CNN and others, of why people should rent, this post could not come at a better time. Can we all agree that we are fed up with the media feeding frenzy on what they feel is best for the country, a land of renters?
